Security emails from LightInventory
Which security emails LightInventory sends, what each one means, what to do if it wasn't you, and how to tell a real email from a phishing attempt.
Last updated October 30, 2026
We email you when something important happens to your sign-in, such as a sign-in from a new device or a change to your sign-in methods. These emails never ask for your password, sign-in codes or recovery codes, and they never contain your inventory data.
The emails we send
| When we send it | |
|---|---|
| New sign-in | A device we have not seen before signs in to your account. At most one email per device every 24 hours |
| Failed sign-in attempts | Someone passes the first sign-in step and then fails the second factor 3 or more times |
| Sign-in method added or removed | A passkey or authenticator app is added to or removed from your account |
| Recovery code used | A recovery code is used to sign in |
| New recovery codes | A new set of recovery codes is created |
| Password changed | Your password is changed or reset |
| All sessions signed out | Every session on your account is signed out |
Each email shows the time, the device and an approximate location. Security emails are part of the service, so there is no option to unsubscribe.
If it wasn't you
The new-sign-in email has a This wasn't me button. It signs out every session on your account. It works for 7 days and only once, and it can never be used to sign in.
After that:
- Sign in again with your first factor and your second factor.
- If you use a password, reset it.
- Review your sign-in methods in Security and remove any you do not recognize.
- Check your sessions.
For any other security email you did not expect, follow steps 1 to 4 and contact support@lightinventory.com.
Check that an email is really from us
- We never ask for your password, sign-in codes or recovery codes by email. Anyone who does is not LightInventory.
- No email from us signs you in. An email link can reset a password, but it never replaces the second factor.
- When in doubt, do not use the link. Type the LightInventory address into your browser yourself and sign in there.
- A passkey works only on LightInventory, so it protects you even if you open a fake page by mistake.
